Inside is a comfortable waiting area, two automatic banking machines, a cafe and shops. Glasgow's largest train station, the city's Central Station sees more than 34 million people pass through its doors every year. Originally opened in 1879, the station has a total of 16 platforms, 14 on the High Level, two on the Low Level. A glass and iron bridge known as the "Highlandman's Umbrella", a well-known landmark, takes pedestrians over Argyle Street, underneath which is located several shops, cafes and pubs.
