    Glasgow Cathedral

Throughout the 1500s many of Scotland's great churches were vandalised or destroyed by Reformists. Glasgow's beloved Cathedral, set on 1,600-year-old sacred grounds first consecrated for Christian burial by St. Ninian in 397 AD, was protected by the city's citizens and managed to escape virtually harm-free. The original church was built in the 6th century by Saint Mungo, who would later become Glasgow's patron saint.
