The Burrell Collection In 1944, Sir William Burrell gifted his collection of more than 9,000 pieces of art to the City of Glasgow. Following his wishes, a suitable site to build a large enough building to house all of the artifacts was finally found in 1967, and is located a short distance from the city to protect the collection from pollution. Medieval art, stained glass, Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, sculpture, European paintings, Chinese and Islamic pieces and other antiquities make up the Burrell Collection.
